Use h2m to illustrate each aspect of this concept.

Fully introduces a comprehensive understanding of the concept of the sociological imagination
Illustrates your sociological imagination through self-selected details sourced from Hand to Mouth. Use H2M to illustrate each aspect of this concept.
This is an academic (not a personal) paper; it should not be written in an “I” voice.
Use specific examples from your reading of Hand to Mouth (complete with page numbers or audio time stamps) but do not write out full quotations into your paper.
Be 100% sure that you have fully defined the Sociological Imagination and that your working definition of the term is clearly communicated.
Each element of the term needs to be reflected in your analysis fully & you should feel confident that your writing reflects the breadth of your reading.
You are welcome to bring sources contained in our course content into your essay. Use of the definition of The Sociological Imagination contained in The Real World is discouraged.

2) what does the scientific and academic community say through research about the current event or social phenomena

OVERVIEW: The final project requires you to investigate any current event or social phenomena. The goal of the project is to conduct a critical investigation of that social phenomena using a sociological imagination. You will then
produce a reflection essay that focuses on how that moment or series of events can be analyzed through 3 specific lenses:
1) how do mass media platforms (television, news, social media, movies etc.) view and share information on the current event or social phenomena
2) what does the scientific and academic community say through research about the current event or social phenomena
3) what do you personally think about the current event or social phenomena and share what evidence you draw your conclusions from
For example, you could examine topics like climate change, homelessness, gun violence, pro-choice/pro-life, COVID-19 etc.
DIRECTIONS: On the due date listed above, you will provide me with a short essay which highlights
what you have learned from your experience.
Format: The short essay should be written in a collegiate level format and style. Feel free to use the style most appropriate for your current/future field of study (MLA, APA, ASA etc.). Let your personality come through in your writing! The essay will be (5-7) pages in length. Exceeding the page limit does not warrant a higher grade. Use Times New Roman, size 12 font, with standard 1” margins. Please use headers to clearly differentiate the sections of your essay.
Content: Your essay should reflect your critical thinking skillset that we have developed during any of the 16 weeks of this course. The goal is to have these specific sections completed with thorough research introduction of the issue.

You must go beyond just describing the culture shock experience.

In just about any circumstance in life, one has the potential to experience culture shock, either on a small or large scale. Identify an example of culture shock from a book, film, or TV series. Examples of culture shock that are appropriate for this assignment can include migrating to a new country, going on vacation, trying a new cuisine, converting to a new religion, or going to college, just to name a few.
Sociologically analyze the example of culture shock that you have identified by incorporating several sociological concepts/theories. Write a 3.5 – 4 page paper by following the outline below.
I. Background (½ to 1 page):
Briefly explain the culture shock experience you identified and the source (e.g., book, TV series, film…). Include the setting, people involved, and main event(s). Include enough details so the reader can vividly imagine what is happening, but do not go beyond the 1-page requirement.
Make sure you include a well-developed thesis statement, which informs the reader in one sentence what the paper is about. The thesis should be placed at the end of the Background section.
Analysis (2 to 3 pages): This is the main part of your paper. Make sure this section is very well-developed, well-organized, and well-written since your grade depends mainly on your sociological analysis of the culture shock experience.
Analyze the culture shock experience you identified using at least five key terms learned from previous modules. For each key term, you will need to provide examples of the culture shock experience in order to illustrate that you can use the course material to reach a greater depth of understanding. You must go beyond just describing the culture shock experience. Key terms must be bolded or underlined in your paper, or they will not be counted in the quota. In addition, examine the outcomes of the culture shock.
What was the person’s/character(s) reaction to the experience?
Were they ethnocentric or culturally relativistic, and how?
Also, why do you think they were ethnocentric or culturally relativistic?
*Be sure to apply your sociological imagination when responding to these questions. Include specific examples or illustrations.
III. Conclusion (1/2 -1 page): Include an engaging and stimulating conclusion paragraph that summarizes your paper. Demonstrate evidence that you can make connections between all of the main ideas.

Cite specific examples of their contributions, and cite them.

Short Essay #1 Prompt
In the first 5 weeks of class, you have learned about the different contributions of individual self-identifying Chicanas who helped theorize, reimagine, and radicalize what it means to be a Chicana. For Exam #1, use the ASSIGNED texts and lecture materials to respond to the following questions about Chicana identity in essay format:
What does it mean to be a Chicana? Explain briefly how the term evolved over time, within the contexts of the identity “Chicano,” “Mexicano/a,” “woman,” or “female” among others? What are some ways the term has been misunderstood, reduced, or used as the basis for stereotypes in popular use? Finally, for the meat of your paper, address ways that Chicanas have resisted these reductive stereotypes through scholarship, activism, films, and through telling their own narratives. Cite specific examples of their contributions, and cite them. Dig into the texts we’ve read for class, peruse through the lectures and films, and excavate pieces to that demonstrate this resistance throughout history. This material is the evidence you will analyze, and synthesize source-to-source to write your essay. Draw connections between the sources and organize them by topic in your essay. Use these topics to help categorize your paragraphs.
An example of synthesis in a sentence:
In the film Chicana by Sylvia Morales, she makes reference to some of the same historical and mythological narratives in I am Joaquín, but instead tells the story from the perspective of the women involved, all women identified as Chicana ancestors. Chicana Feminist theorist Adelaida del Castillo, _____ , and others have pointed to the way that the dominant narrative erases individual life stories of Chicana ancestry in the following ways….
Essay guidelines and format:
Organize your essay by a brief introduction, paragraphs by topic, and a brief conclusion
Cite at least 3 sources from assigned materials in your answer
Your answer should be 750-1000 words
Make CONCRETE reference to texts when writing your essay
Use the citation style of your choice, but be sure to maintain a uniform style throughout
